Many many years ago, I read Kimberly Snyder's Beauty Detox Solution (but I think we were using the forbidden word "diet" back then) all about eating for more radiant skin and overall wellness. The idea behind her -- erm -- diet was eating plant-based, clean, and in the right order. Eating fruits and vegetables at the beginning of your day so it's digested quickly, and starting each morning off with a Glowing Green Smoothie to get your body started.
I started my GGS habit about five years ago and while I sometimes take some breaks, I've been going strong every since. It's stronger than a cup of coffee at waking me up and getting my digestion rolling for the day, and I always notice a difference in my skin when I'm drinking them regularly -- I seem to actually glow from the inside.
While I started with Kimberly's recipe, I have take some liberties over the last couple years and have a pretty good system. My recipe changes from week to week, so this will read more like instructions for your own improvisation.
Gab's Green Smoothie Recipe
- Greens bok choy, kale, spinach, swiss chard. pick one or two.
- Veggies celery, cucumber. pick one or both.
- Fruit granny smith apple, kiwi. pick one.
- Juice of 1/2 lemon
- 2 tbsp of fresh chopped ginger
- Base liquid I use ~1/2 cup of C2O coconut water. the more celery or cucumber you use, the less of this you will need.
Blend all ingredients in a high-speed blender (I love my Vitamix for breaking up greens) for a couple minutes until it's a smooth liquid. I make enough to fill three mason jars and store in the freezer to keep them fresh, thawing out the night before I drink them.
